Our History
Phoenix Medical Ltd, our sister company, holds education as one of its highest priorities, and therefore is deeply invested in the development and success of the Academy of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. We offer accredited training, continuing education (CPD), and diploma programmes to healthcare practitioners. In collaboration with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM), we provide our flagship programme, the three-year Herbal Medicine Diploma blending classic TCM theory with modern practice. So far over 1,000 students have benefited from our courses, taught by senior clinicians with decades of experience.

Since its inception in 2011, Phoenix Medical has evolved from a UK-based distributor into a leading platform in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) across Europe. The company’s trajectory is marked by significant advancements in clinical research, regulatory compliance, educational initiatives, and international collaborations, all aimed at integrating TCM into modern healthcare frameworks.
2011 – Establishment
Phoenix Medical was founded to address the growing demand for high-quality, legally compliant TCM products in the UK. The initial focus was on supplying premium herbs and acupuncture products to clinics, emphasising safety, compliance, and practitioner support.
2012–2013 – Academic Collaborations and Research Initiatives
In 2012, Phoenix Medical became the first company approved under the Registered Chinese Medicine (RCHM) newly implemented Approved Supplier Scheme. The company launched formal education programmes, including academic exchanges with Shanghai University of TCM.
2015 – Advancement in Education
The company launched a two-year Herbal Diploma programme, accredited by the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine Accreditation Board (ATCMAB). Additionally, Phoenix supported the establishment of the European Association of Jing Fang TCM, promoting professional collaboration and classical formula training across Europe.
2018 – Corporate Social Responsibility and Global Engagement
Phoenix initiated a corporate social responsibility partnership with Animals Asia, contributing a portion of sales to efforts aimed at ending bear bile farming. The company hosted the International Jing Fang Conference, bringing together TCM experts from over 23 countries to promote classical herbal medicine. Additionally, Phoenix donated acupuncture supplies to charities and student clinics, demonstrating a commitment to community well-being.
2019 – Leadership in Clinical Research
Appointed as the UK Project Lead for a UK–China government-funded clinical trial on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Phoenix collaborated with the University of Southampton and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The company managed MHRA registration, herbal supply, and quality control for this significant clinical trial.
2021 – Graduation of First Cohort
The first cohort of the Virtual Herbal Medicine Diploma graduated, and online CPD courses were expanded through the Phoenix Academy.
2022 –Academic Support
Research partnerships were deepened, and teaching materials for TCM institutions across the UK were enhanced.
2023 – Thought Leadership and Product Development
Phoenix supported the establishment of a UK Centre of Chinese Medicine to promote the sustainability of Chinese medicine. The company organised the UK–China Chinese Medicine & Human Health Conference in collaboration with Shanghai University of TCM. Advanced diploma education programmes were expanded in partnership with Shanghai University of TCM, aligning with the EHTPA accreditation scheme.

We also offer access to other teaching programmes and high quality clinic supplies from our parent company, Phoenix Medical. We are privileged to have access to our own in-house dispensary where we invite our students to learn on-site. Students will be able to order the supplies they will be prescribing to their clients upon successful completion of the diploma.
